| | Merit Badges A part of the merit badge program at CFL is that all the badges will be taught from a syllabus or lesson plan. This was developed through the Council's Advancement and Training Committees. This was done to insure that the merit badge is taught completely and according to the book. The merit badge program at camp is an integral part of the overall program. Merit badges, however, are not the entire program and it is felt that no Scout should come to camp exclusively to earn merit badges. There is just too much to see and do during the Scout's short stay of one or two weeks. For this reason, and from past experience with boys, it is recommended that most Scouts should be encouraged to pursue no more than three of four merit badges at one time in a week period. For some Scouts, one or two is plenty. Scouts completing a portion of a merit badge at home may complete the badge at camp and in turn, Scouts completing a portion of a merit badge at camp may complete the remaining part of the badge with a counselor at home. It is recommended that Scouts make arrangements with their merit badge counselors at home prior to attending camp if they plan on completing only parts of the merit badge while at camp. | Summer Camp Merit Badges and Requirements | |
