July 2008
SERVING KENDALL AND SOUTHERN DEKALB COUNTIES, AND PORTIONS OF KANELAND SCHOOL DISTRICT 302
Thank You
Thank you to the Hartman family for their time and effort planning this year’s Maramech Hill Cubmobile event. The event was a huge success with the largest number of participants ever! Thank you also to Mark Scoughton and Bob Drawz for organizing a great Spring Camporee!
National Summertime Award
A
pack can qualify for the National Summertime Pack Award certificate and
streamer by planning and conducting three pack activities—one each in June,
July, and August. This award can be an incentive for greater attendance at your
summer pack activities. Qualifying packs receive a colorful streamer for their
pack flag. Dens with an average attendance of at least half their members at
the three summer pack events will be eligible for a colorful den participation
ribbon. Boys who participate in all three pack events are eligible to receive
the National Summertime
Pack Award pin, which they can wear on the right pocket flap
of their uniform.
The purpose of the National Summertime Pack Award is to encourage packs to provide a year-round program by continuing to meet during the time periods when school is out of session for several weeks or months. If a pack is in a "year-round school" (or is part of a home-school association), the pack could earn the Summertime Pack Award by having a special pack activity during those breaks. Please contact Erin Peterson at 630-797-4625 or epeterso@bsamail.org.
Summer Plans
When the school year ends don’t forget about Scouting! There are many summer activities for your pack, troop, or crew to do. Take a look at the council website for suggestions or pair up with another unit to do a summer activity! Camp Freeland Leslie will be expecting those who signed up all throughout the summer! Remember to have fun, be safe, and enjoy the summer!
Membership
Where did all my Cub Scouts go?? Chances are they crossed over into Boy Scouts! Good news – the future first graders are ready to be your new Tiger Cubs! If you didn’t have a round up this Spring make sure and start planning your round up for fall. If you need any assistance or advice please contact our membership chair Laura Hilliard at Hilliard_scout@wwdb.org. Round ups help increase your pack membership greatly and is also a good way to get some new adults involved.
Webelos Overnighter
The Maramech Hill Webelos Overnight will take place on August 22-23. The theme will be Readyman. The cost to participate in the Webelos Overnighter is $18.00. To sign up please contact Bob Drawz at drawz4@msn.com or 630-968-3866.
If you like to submit anything for next month’s Flame article please contact Erin Peterson at epeterso@bsamail.org or 630-797-4625.
