The theme for Haunted Hike 2009 is “TRAIL OF TERROR”. We are planning 10 scare scenes along a ¾ mile trail at Camp Big Timber. Two new features will be added to this year’s trail to enhance our guest spooky experience. Look for the “Cave of Ghouls” and the “Tunnel of Doom” at this year’s hike as well as old favorites like the “Maze” & “Graveyard”. Youth members of the Haunted Hike Committee are already planning these creepy additions to this year's Hike.
Scouting Units in the Three Fires Council who are interested in participating as staff members of Haunted Hike 2009 should fill out the Unit Commitment Form and return it to the Three Fires Council office in St. Charles.

ABOUT THE HAUNTED HIKE
Haunted Hike was started by the Elgin Jaycee’s in 1991 and was taken over by the Exploring Division of the Three Fires Council in 1996. From 1996 to 2004 the hike has been built and manned by Exploring / Venturing youth members of the council. In 2005 participation in the hike was opened up to all Scouting units in the Three Fires Council. Ages of the members participating are from 11 to 20 years of age. Each scene has adult supervision and is reviewed for safety by senior members of the Haunted Hike Committee as well as the Camp Ranger to ensure it meets safety guidelines established for the safety of our guest and members alike.
The hike is approximately 3/4 of mile in length and follows established trails at Camp Big Timber. There are normally 7 to 10 scare scenes along the trail, with roving monsters between scenes to add additional fright for our guests. The hike through the darkness is considered very scary and may not be suitable for younger members of your family. We do offer a “Kiddie Hike” on the last Saturday of the hike, each year for younger fans of Halloween. Kids walk and visit scenes on the same trail as those attending the night time hikes, however, those manning the scenes during the Kiddie Hike do not attempt to frighten the kids, and candy is passed out all along the trail.
We invite you and your family to join us each year for a frightfully good time.
